Ciudad Jardín Market

The market was designed by architect Luis Gutiérrez Mérida and built between 1950 and 1953. It is a fine example of autarkic architecture, with a whitewashed exterior and a central facade featuring three semicircular arches that let plenty of natural light into the interior. The building has been renovated three times, most recently in 2008.

The 59 stalls cover a solid range of everyday groceries. You'll find fresh fruit and vegetables, fish and seafood, meat and poultry, cheese and dairy, bread, local honey, olive oil, nuts, and spices. There's a food court inside, so it's worth stopping for a coffee or a bite after browsing. The market is wheelchair accessible with an elevator available.

The market is at Av. Santiago Ramón y Cajal 148 in the Ciudad Jardín district, in the northern part of Málaga. Several bus lines run along this corridor, making it easy to reach from the city centre. It's not on the tourist trail, so it's a straightforward local market experience.
