Street Markets in Costa Adeje

Food takes up a good share of the stalls: fresh fruit and vegetables, fish and seafood, meat and poultry, cheese and dairy, and prepared foods to eat as you walk. The rest is the mix you'd expect from a resort market, with clothing and textiles, footwear and leather, jewellery and handicrafts. With four markets working through the week, the same traders and the same lines of stock turn up on more than one day, so a market you miss on Monday is rarely the only chance you get.

Monday is the day to aim for if you only have one, with three markets trading. Wednesday and Thursday each have two, while Tuesday, Friday and Saturday have one apiece. Nothing sets up on a Sunday. Most stalls are open by 9am and start packing down towards 3pm, so a late-morning visit catches the markets at full strength without the worst of the midday sun.

Staying in Playa de las Américas puts you close to most of the markets and gives you easy access to the whole southern strip. For a more upscale base, the Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora is a solid pick with good transport links into town.

If you prefer something central and well-connected, Torviscas Alto has plenty of mid-range options and you can reach the main market spots on foot or with a short taxi ride. A car is useful but not essential, since the markets open early and the southern strip is well served by local buses.
