Mercado de San Leopoldo is a gastronomic market in the Tetuán neighbourhood of Madrid, near Plaza de Castilla. Originally a commercial gallery from 1973, it reopened in September 2023 as a contemporary food market with 14 stalls and a central shared dining area for up to 150 people. The market opens daily at 11:30, with extended late-night hours on Friday and Saturday.
About San Leopoldo Market
The market sits in the heart of Tetuán, one of Madrid's most diverse working-class neighbourhoods. The renovation transformed the former Galería de Alimentación San Miguel into a modern gastro space with a strong focus on quality food.
Two stalls have earned national recognition. Casa Dani was named home of the best tortilla de patata in Spain in 2019. Juancho's BBQ took top honours for best hamburgers in the country between 2019 and 2022. Other stalls include D'Agustto, La Martinuca, Trompo, and Yeggie, covering a range of Spanish and international dishes. The market forms part of Madrid's municipal market network, combining fresh produce retail with a full dining experience under one roof.
What to buy at San Leopoldo Market
You'll find fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, cheese, and prepared foods across the stalls. The market leans towards ready-to-eat options alongside fresh produce, with a mix of traditional Spanish and international dishes. Pick up breakfast or a casual lunch, or come for dinner and stay into the evening.
