Central Market of Alicante

The building was designed in 1915 and completed in 1922, blending eclectic and Valencian modernist styles. The main facade on Av. de Alfonso X El Sabio is reached by a wide staircase, while the rear opens onto Plaza 25 de Mayo. Inside, a semi-basement level and an upper trading floor together cover around 11,100 m², making this one of the larger covered markets in the region.

Fish and seafood are the standout draw, with a busy fish hall supplied daily from the Mediterranean coast. Note that the fish section is closed on Mondays, so plan accordingly if that's your main reason to visit. Alongside the seafood you'll find stalls selling meat and poultry, fresh fruit and vegetables, bread and pastries, cheese, and a good range of regional products including local olive oil, honey, nuts, dried fruits, and spices. There are also prepared food stalls inside where you can grab a quick lunch, making it a practical stop as well as a shopping one.

The market is at Av. de Alfonso X El Sabio 10, in the centre of the city and walkable from most of the old town. Several urban bus lines run along the avenue, and the TRAM Metropolitano d'Alacant has stops within a short walk. Parking is available nearby. The Carolinas Market in the upper part of the city is the next municipal market in Alicante worth knowing about if you're planning a broader visit.
