Central Market of Alicante

The market opens 7am to 2:30pm Monday to Friday, and 7am to 3pm on Saturday. It is closed all day Sunday, so Saturday morning is the only weekend chance to shop it. Everything trades indoors, which makes the weather irrelevant to the trip. There are public toilets and parking, and dogs are welcome inside. Fish and seafood are the reason most people come, and they sit alongside counters for meat and poultry, fresh fruit and vegetables, bread and bakery, and cheese and dairy. The regional side of the hall runs to local honey, olive oil, nuts and dried fruits, spices and herbs, and wine and spirits, with coffee and tea and organic produce too. Prepared food stalls sell things ready to eat, so an early shop can turn into breakfast without leaving the building.

Staying in the Old Town (El Barrio) puts you within walking distance of the market, which matters when the doors open at 7am. The Eurostars Mediterránea Plaza is a central option a short stroll away.

The Explanada and Port Area has hotels along the seafront, with the market, the beach and the old town all within easy reach.

The market is at Av. de Alfonso X El Sabio 10, 03004 Alicante, on the avenue of the same name in the centre of the city. There is parking at the market. Since trading starts at 7am and ends at 2:30pm on weekdays, a morning arrival is the only practical one. Other street markets in Alicante run on set days if you want to combine the two.
