Colón Market
Indoor market in a national monument Art Nouveau building in Valencia's Eixample. Open daily 7:30am to 2:30am with fresh produce, restaurants, and gourmet shops.
Mercado de Colón is one of Valencia's most distinctive indoor markets, at Carrer de Jorge Juan 19 in the L'Eixample district. It's open every day from 7:30am to 2:30am, longer hours than most municipal markets in Valencia, making it a destination for morning shopping and evening dining alike. With 30 stalls selling fresh produce alongside a food court, restaurants, and gourmet shops, it draws locals picking up groceries and visitors stopping for a meal.
History and architecture
The market was designed by architect Francisco Mora Berenguer and opened in 1916 in the Valencian Art Nouveau style. It's a declared national monument, known for its cast-iron structure, decorative ceramic mosaics depicting rural Valencian scenes, and a glass roof that fills the 3,500 m² hall with natural light. After falling into decline the building closed in 1985, then was fully restored and reopened in 2003. The restoration preserved the original ironwork and tilework while adapting the space for contemporary use.
What to buy
The 30 stalls cover a full range of fresh produce: fruit, vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, seafood, cheese, dairy, bread, and pastries. Prepared food stalls and specialty coffee make it easy to grab breakfast or a light lunch on the go. The food court and on-site restaurants mean you can also sit down for something more substantial, from traditional horchata and fartons to contemporary dishes. Most stalls accept contactless and mobile payments alongside cash and cards.
