Els Encants Vells (Mercat dels Encants)
Historic flea market with almost 500 stalls selling antiques, vintage clothing, books and second-hand finds. Open four days a week at Glòries.
Els Encants Vells (Mercat dels Encants) is Barcelona's largest flea market, set up four days a week at Carrer de los Castillejos 158, near Plaça de les Glòries. The market runs every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9am to 8pm. With almost 500 stalls spread across a three-storey building, it's one of the biggest draws for bargain hunters and antique collectors in Barcelona. Bring cash, as many stalls don't accept cards.
The market's roots stretch back over 700 years, making it one of the oldest in Europe. It moved to its current location in 2013, housed under a striking mirrored canopy that reflects the surrounding cityscape. Early-morning auctions for traders run from 8am to 9am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but regular shoppers should arrive after 9am when everything opens to the public.
What you'll find
The stalls cover a huge range of goods. Antiques, vintage furniture, second-hand clothing, leather goods and footwear fill the upper levels. Lower down you'll find books, magazines, jewellery, handicrafts, and all sorts of curiosities and collectibles. If you're after something specific, the official Encants Barcelona website lists the full directory of shops and stall holders.
The market also has a food court with restaurants and bars, so you can grab lunch without leaving the building. Several stalls sell prepared foods, coffee, and snacks.
Saturday pulls the biggest crowds. If you prefer a quieter browse, try a weekday market day instead.
