Felip II Market

The market was designed by architects Josep Ribas González, J. Anglada, and D. Gelabert and built in just six months to serve the working-class neighbourhoods that grew rapidly during Barcelona's post-war migration boom. Its most distinctive feature is its revolving hyperboloid skylights: circular ceramic and methacrylate cupolas that flood the interior with natural light and ventilate the hall naturally. These were described at the time as carrying a Gaudian reference, and the building was included in Barcelona's 2026 World Capital of Architecture programme. A renovation completed in late 2023 refreshed the floor, upgraded air conditioning, and consolidated the active stalls.

The 25 stalls cover a solid range of daily food: fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and poultry, fish and seafood, cheese and dairy, and bread and pastries. The market is at Carrer de Felip II, 118, in the La Sagrera neighbourhood of Sant Andreu. The nearest metro is La Sagrera (lines L1, L5, L9N, and L10N), around a seven-minute walk away. Bus lines 62, 96, 126, 191, H8, and V27 all stop nearby, with the Felip II – Meridiana stop just a three-minute walk from the entrance.
