Concepció Market
A historic 1888 market hall in Barcelona's Eixample, Concepció is known for its flower stalls alongside 25 food stalls covering fresh produce, meat, fish, and cheese.
Concepció Market (Mercat de la Concepció in Catalan) is an indoor municipal market at Carrer d'Aragó 311-317 in Barcelona's Eixample district. The food market is open Monday and Saturday from 8am to 3pm, and Tuesday through Friday from 8am to 8pm, with 25 stalls covering fresh produce, meat, fish, and more. It's equally well known for its flower stalls, which operate every day of the week and are a fixture of the neighbourhood.
History and architecture
The market was inaugurated in 1888, designed by architect Antoni Rovira i Trias, who also created the plans for Barcelona's Sant Antoni Market. The building spans 38 metres wide by 105 metres long, with a central nave rising 13 metres and two lower side aisles. A major renovation between 2002 and 2005 modernised the facilities while preserving the original structure. The market's stall directory and events programme are listed at laconcepcio.cat.
What to buy
The food stalls carry the everyday staples: fresh vegetables and fruit, meat and poultry, fish and seafood, cheese and dairy, and bread. The florists' stalls are open throughout the week, making Concepció a reliable stop for cut flowers or seasonal arrangements any day. The market accepts cash and mobile payments.
