Street Markets in Palafrugell

Saturday and Sunday carry two markets each, so those are the days with a choice. From Tuesday to Friday there is one a day, which means a weekday visit is one destination rather than a decision. Three of the four have a confirmed trading day; the fourth does not, so check locally before travelling specifically for it. The biggest, Palafrugell Weekly Market, sets up around 40 stalls.

8am to 1pm is the pattern across the daytime markets. Stalls are out early, the fish and produce counters are at their best in the first couple of hours, and packing up starts soon after midday. Two of the four are craft and artisan markets that run in the evening instead, including one at Llafranc on the coast, which is the option if your mornings belong to the beach.

Fresh fruit and vegetables, fish and seafood, meat, bread and cheese cover the food rows, with clothing, footwear and household goods alongside. The evening artisan markets are a different proposition, selling handicrafts and jewellery rather than produce, so give them their own trip rather than trying to combine the two.

Come early. With most stalls closing at 1pm, arriving at noon means shopping through the gaps. Bring cash, since plenty of stall holders do not take cards, and a bag of your own. Stay in Palafrugell Town Centre and you are within walking distance of the market squares, which matters when stalls open at 8am and are packing up by 1pm, and you will not need a car for a morning shop. Calella de Palafrugell is a few kilometres away on the coast, with more hotels and apartments and an easy hop into town for the market and back to the sea afterwards.
