Pontevedra Municipal Market
Covered indoor market on Rúa Serra with 25 stalls selling fresh Galician seafood, produce and meat. Home to Pontevedra's daily fish auction, open Monday to Saturday.
Pontevedra Municipal Market sits on Rúa Serra at the northeastern edge of the old town, a short walk from the Burgo Bridge and overlooking the Lérez river. One of the markets in Pontevedra, it trades Monday to Saturday from 8am to 3pm, with 25 stalls across two floors selling fresh Galician seafood, meat, fruit, vegetables, cheese, and bakery goods. The current building opened in 2003 after a full rebuild of the original 1948 market designed by architect Emilio Quiroga Losada.
What to buy
Fish and seafood are the main draw here. The market hosts Pontevedra's official fish auction where daily Atlantic catches are sold to vendors and local restaurants. Note that the fish section is closed on Mondays, so Tuesday through Saturday is the best time if seafood is your priority. Fruit, vegetables, and flowers are available on all trading days. On the upper floor, Gastroespazo is a food hall where you can sit down and eat dishes prepared with ingredients from the stalls below. You can also bring your own market purchases to be cooked for 3 euros per dish.
