Staying in the city centre puts you within easy walking distance of Murcia's main markets, so look at Centro as your first choice. The NH Murcia is a solid option right in the heart of things, and the Hotel Arco de San Juan offers a characterful base close to the old town streets where most of the action happens.

If you prefer something with a bit more comfort, the Occidental Murcia Siete Coronas sits right on the Segura river and is just a short stroll from the main market areas.

The Murcia Sunday Market is the largest street market in the city, with 70 outdoor stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, clothing, and prepared foods. It draws shoppers from across the city and is the best single market to visit if you have only one morning free.

The Thursday Open Air Market runs 60 stalls outdoors and covers clothing, fresh produce, footwear, and flowers and plants, making it one of the more varied weekday options in the centre. La Fama Market, also outdoors, offers 45 stalls with a focus on clothing, prepared foods, handicrafts, and footwear, while Murcia Sunday Street Market adds 35 stalls dedicated to clothing, handicrafts, footwear, and books. Thursday Market Santiago el Mayor and Cabezo de Torres Weekly Market each run 25 indoor stalls, both carrying fresh produce alongside meat, fish, and prepared foods.

The remaining 48 street markets are smaller neighbourhood and pedanía markets, nearly all running weekly outdoors with a consistent offer of fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, and clothing. Verónicas Food Market is the centrepiece of Murcia's covered market scene, housed in a historic Modernist building and home to 35 indoor stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and poultry, fish and seafood, and cheese and dairy. It is the largest and most visited food hall in the city centre, and the building itself is worth seeing even if you are not shopping.

Plaza de Abastos Mercado de Vistabella is the second municipal market, with 25 indoor stalls carrying the same core range of fresh produce, meat, fish, and dairy. It serves the eastern residential neighbourhoods and tends to be quieter than Verónicas, making it a practical choice if you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere.

Monday is the busiest day for markets in Murcia, with 13 of the city's 54 street markets trading, closely followed by Friday, also on 13. Tuesday and Thursday each see 12 markets open, Wednesday 10, and Sunday is the quietest day with just 6, though it's when the largest single market, the 70-stall Murcia Sunday Market, sets up. Most stalls keep the same hours across the week, opening around 9am and closing by 2pm.
