Markets in Cartagena

Santa Florentina Market is Cartagena's only covered market hall, located on Calle Juan Fernández and housing around 25 stalls. The building dates to 1910 and was designed by local architect Tomás Rico; it sits above layers of Roman and medieval remains, giving it an unusual depth of history for a working food market. Inside, traders sell fresh fish and seafood, meat and poultry, fruit and vegetables, cheese and dairy, and bread and pastries. It opens Monday to Saturday from 8:00 to 14:00 and is the most reliable daily option for food shopping in the city centre.

Los Dolores Street Market is the largest in Cartagena, with 118 stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, clothing, footwear, and flowers and plants. It runs weekly and is the go-to market for households across the northern part of the city. El Algar Street Market, with 90 stalls, and El Bohío Street Market, with 80 stalls, are the next biggest and follow a similar format of produce and clothing. Both are outdoor weekly markets serving their respective neighbourhoods.

Several markets cater specifically to the coastal communities that fill up during summer. Islas Menores Summer Market (75 stalls), Los Nietos Summer Market (66 stalls), and La Azohía Summer Market (28 stalls) all run weekly during the warmer months, selling fresh produce and clothing to residents and visitors along the Mar Menor shore and the southern coast. In the city itself, both Barrio de Peral Street Market and Cartagena Street Market run with 25 stalls each. Plaza Bohemia Craft Market (30 stalls) and the Alameda de San Antón Christmas Craft Market add a specialist dimension with handicrafts and jewellery. The remaining markets, including Llano del Beal (5 stalls) and Urbanización Mediterráneo (25 stalls), are smaller neighbourhood markets running weekly on morning schedules.
