Markets in Almeria
Almeria, Andalusia
Almeria has 10 street markets, all of them inside the city and its outlying barrios, and between them they cover every day of the week. Most open in the morning and pack up in the early afternoon, so a market visit here is something you do before lunch rather than after it. Stalls sell fresh fruit and vegetables from the campos that surround the city, along with clothing, footwear, handicrafts, books and antiques.

Where to stay in Almeria
Staying in the city centre puts you within walking distance of the central markets, and Centro is the best base for that. The Hotel Catedral Almeria sits right by the cathedral, a few minutes from the main shopping streets.
If you want something with more comfort, the AC Hotel Almeria by Marriott is a short walk from the centre. From either you can reach most of the city's markets on foot or with one short bus ride.
Tours & Activities in Almeria
Almeria market days and opening hours
Saturday is the busiest day, with 5 of the city's 10 markets trading. Friday follows with 3, then Monday and Tuesday with 2 each, and Wednesday and Thursday with 1 apiece. Sunday is the quietest trading day, with a single market open, so if you are here for a weekend the Saturday morning is the one to plan around.
The most common opening hours across the city are 08:30 to 14:00. Arrive in the first hour and the produce stalls are still fully stacked and the aisles are walkable; by midday the fruit and vegetable pitches are the ones being cleared first. Individual times vary from market to market, so check the page for the one you are heading to before setting out. Dutch and German visitors looking for a markt in Almeria should search for the word mercadillo, which is what the weekly street markets are called locally and how they are signed.

What to buy at Almeria's markets
Almeria province grows a large share of Europe's winter fruit and vegetables under plastic, and the farmers' produce pitches are the reason most residents turn up: tomatoes, peppers, courgettes and melons in season, sold by the kilo and usually cheaper than the supermarket. Bring cash and small notes, and bring your own bag.
Away from the produce rows, the city's markets are good for cheap clothing and footwear, household goods and, at one or two of them, secondhand and antique stalls where books, jewellery and bric-a-brac turn up. The full list of pitches, days and stall counts is in the street markets in Almeria listings, and the wider Almeria province page covers the coastal and inland towns beyond the city.
