Municipal Markets in Valladolid

Every one of the five halls is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, so there is no working day when you arrive to find the shutters down across the city. The most common opening hours are 09:00 to 15:30: shopping here is a morning and early-afternoon activity, and by mid-afternoon the counters are being packed away.

Sunday is the exception. Only one of the five trades on a Sunday, so if your visit falls on a weekend, make it Saturday. Individual halls set their own closing time, so check the timetable above before a long trip.

A municipal market is a building with fixed tenancies. The stalls are the same ones week after week and the produce arrives daily rather than being trucked in for a single market morning, so you are not tied to one market day. The largest of the five, Val Market, runs to 30 stalls.

All five halls sit inside the city, so anywhere central puts you within walking distance of a morning's shopping: look at rooms around Centro first, or Hotel Meliá Recoletos if you want a little more comfort. Since the counters open around 09:00 and are closing by 15:30, and only one hall trades on a Sunday, a stay that covers a weekday morning is worth more here than a weekend one.
