Street Markets in Orihuela

Fresh fruit and vegetables from the Vega Baja farmland lead the produce stalls, alongside meat and poultry, cheese and dairy, bread and bakery, and organic products. Clothing, footwear and handicrafts make up much of the rest, with prepared foods to eat as you walk. The split runs roughly along the coast road: the inland markets in Orihuela town and the outlying villages are where the farmers' produce is strongest, while the markets in the Orihuela Costa urbanisations lean towards clothing and household goods. La Murada on Sunday is the outlier in scale, at around 250 stalls.

Saturday is the busiest day, with three of the seven markets trading, and the only day you could reasonably pick between them rather than take what is on. Tuesday has two. Thursday, Friday and Sunday have one each. Every market has a confirmed weekly day, so the timetable above is the whole picture, and none of them moves between weeks. Go between 8am and 9am for the best of the fresh produce and to be finished before the midday heat. Bring cash, since card acceptance at the smaller stalls is inconsistent. The 250-stall Sunday market at La Murada needs most of a morning to walk properly; the coastal markets are small enough to cover in half an hour.

Staying in the City Centre puts the inland markets within walking distance, which matters when they start at 8am. If you are basing yourself on the coast, Orihuela Costa sits among the urbanisation markets, though you will want a car for La Murada and the inland villages.
