Updated 15 November 2025 Verified information

A neighbourhood market in Malaga's El Perchel district with 85 stalls of fresh fish, seafood, meat, and produce. Open Monday to Saturday.

Carmen Market (Mercado del Carmen) is a municipal covered market in the El Perchel neighbourhood of Malaga, open Monday to Saturday from 9am. One of six municipal markets in Malaga, it has 85 stalls across around 1,300 square metres of indoor and outdoor space. The market has been serving the community since the 1880s, and El Perchel itself takes its name from the perchas, the wooden racks fishermen once used to dry their catch here. A full renovation in 2010 brought the building up to date while keeping its neighbourhood character intact.

What to buy

Fish and seafood are the standout, reflecting the neighbourhood's fishing heritage. The fishmongers carry the day's catch alongside a full range of meat, poultry, and deli items. You'll also find fresh fruit and vegetables, artisan bread, local honey, olive oil, spices, and flowers. Several stalls sell prepared foods, and the market has a bar with a terrace where you can sit down and enjoy freshly cooked seafood dishes.
