Central Market of Zaragoza
A historic iron-and-glass market hall in Zaragoza's Casco Antiguo, with 75 stalls selling fresh produce, meat, fish and Aragonese specialities.
The Mercado Central de Zaragoza is a landmark municipal market in the heart of Zaragoza, housed in a three-nave iron and glass building designed by architect Félix Navarro Pérez and inaugurated in 1903. With 75 stalls on Avenida de César Augusto, it's the main daily food market for the Casco Antiguo. The market opens Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 14:00 and again from 17:30 to 20:00, and on Saturdays from 9:00 to 14:30. It is closed on Sundays.
About Mercado Central de Zaragoza
Declared a National Historic Monument, the building is one of the finest examples of iron architecture in Aragon. Its rectangular floor plan features three naves, the central one rising higher than the flanking aisles. After a full renovation between 2018 and 2019, it reopened in 2020 with the original structure carefully restored.
The market sits at the heart of Zaragoza's municipal market network. It accepts cash, contactless and mobile payments, and has wheelchair-accessible entrances throughout.
What to buy at Mercado Central de Zaragoza
The 75 stalls cover the full range of fresh food: fruit and vegetables, meat and poultry, fish and seafood, cheese and dairy, and bread and bakery products. You'll also find stalls serving tapas and drinks inside the hall, so it's a good stop for a bite to eat while you shop. For fresh produce in a neighbourhood setting, the Mercado Delicias is another option across the city.
