Markets in Elche

Barcelona Square Market is the larger of Elche's two indoor markets, with 35 stalls selling fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and poultry, fish and seafood, and cheese and dairy. It runs weekly and is the go-to destination for locals shopping for fresh food under one roof. Plaza de Madrid Market operates nearby with 30 stalls and an almost identical product range, covering the same core food categories including fish, meat, and dairy. Both markets open in the mornings and are well suited to an early visit before the heat of the day sets in.

The largest street market in Elche is the Arenales del Sol Summer Market, an outdoor weekly market with 264 stalls concentrating on clothing, footwear, jewellery, and fresh produce. Its scale makes it a significant draw during the summer months in this coastal district south of the city. Altabix Street Market is the biggest of the permanent neighbourhood markets, with 86 stalls covering fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese and dairy, clothing, and footwear every week. Plaza de Barcelona Street Market is another sizeable option at 193 stalls, focusing on clothing, footwear, and spices, making it one of the better spots for non-food shopping in the city.

The Elx Organic Market stands out for its specialisation, with 13 stalls dedicated to organic produce, fresh fruit and vegetables, bread and pastries, and cheese and dairy. It is the only market in Elche with a certified organic focus. San Antón Street Market adds 60 stalls of fresh food and clothing to the eastern part of the city, while Torrellano Street Market brings 54 stalls including fresh produce and dairy to the Torrellano district.

The remaining 13 street markets are smaller neighbourhood and farmers markets, most running weekly with between 7 and 31 stalls, covering combinations of fresh produce, clothing, footwear, and local specialities.
