Markets in Girona

Staying in the historic old town puts you within easy walking distance of Girona's main markets and medieval streets. Try the Hotel Llegendes de Girona Catedral for a central base with plenty of character, or Hotel Historic if you want to be right in the heart of things.

If you prefer something a little more modern, the area around the train station, Eixample, has solid options at various price points and keeps you well connected to the rest of the city.

Eleven weekly markets trade outdoors across Girona and its edges, and they are where the specialist trade sits. The largest is the Ribes del Ter market in Devesa park, with about 35 stalls of fresh produce and clothing. A 25-stall flea market runs the same day for antiques, second-hand books, jewellery, clothing and footwear, and separate smaller markets deal in organic produce, artisan food, handicrafts, collectibles and flowers. The three covered halls are the year-round half of the city's market scene, and signage in Girona is Catalan, so you will see them called a mercat rather than a mercado. Lleó Market is the largest with around 45 stalls, selling fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, seafood and Empordà cheeses, and it is where a good number of the city's restaurants do their daily shopping. The other two are neighbourhood halls on a smaller scale, one leaning towards flowers, plants and clothing, the other covering produce, meat, fish and bakery goods.
