Markets in Gernika-Lumo centre on one of the few remaining traditional farmers' markets in the Basque Country. Every Monday morning, local producers gather at the Domingo Alegría Plaza to sell fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, and baked goods directly from their farms.

The market follows the principle of "Baserritik Plazara" (from the farmhouse to the market square), meaning only growers with their own land can set up a stall. You won't find resellers here. The current market building opened in 1991, and you can read more about its history on the Gernika tourism website.

Gernika-Lumo sits at the heart of the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, making it a good base for exploring other markets in Biscay. If you're visiting on a day the market isn't running, check our markets near me tool to find what's open nearby.
