El Puig Market

The market draws its stock from the Horta Nord, the farmland belt between Valencia and the coast, so the run from field to stall is a short one. It is a neighbourhood municipal market serving the town rather than tourists, and the six-day, mornings-only schedule reflects that: people shop here for the week ahead, not for a day out.

Expect seasonal fruit and vegetables, nuts and dried fruits, olive oil, and cut flowers and plants. The range shifts as harvests come in from the surrounding farmland, so what is on the fruit counters in May is not what is there in October. El Puig is a small town, so your best bet is to stay in the town centre, where you'll be within easy walking distance of the market and the main square. If you prefer more options, the nearby Valencia city area is just a short drive or train ride away and has plenty of accommodation to suit every budget.

For a local feel, look for guesthouses and rural hotels along the seafront and coastal strip, which puts you close to both the town and the beach.

The market is at Camí de la Mar, 24 in El Puig de Santa Maria. El Puig is served by Cercanías lines C-5 and C-6 from Valencia Nord station, roughly a 20-minute ride. By car, take the CV-300 or AP-7 north from Valencia and follow signs for the town centre. Street parking is available near the market.
