Peix Market

The market building dates from 1926-1927, designed by local architect Francesc Femenies. The structure is rectangular with arcades enclosing a hexagonal interior, and it sits at the heart of Mahón's compact old town. What began as a traditional fish market has evolved into a social dining destination where the catch of the day ends up as tapas and pinchos at barrel tables or on the sunny terrace.

The market is wheelchair accessible and has a seating area. Card, contactless, and mobile payments are all accepted alongside cash.

The 8 stalls focus on fresh fish and seafood from Menorcan waters, served as tapas, pinchos, and small plates. You'll also find local wines, spirits, and prepared foods. Menorcan cheese and craft beers often appear too. It's one of the few municipal markets in Mahón where eating in is the whole point.

Staying in the Old Town puts you within easy walking distance of the Peix Market and the harbour, with plenty of cafés and restaurants nearby to round out your visit. The Hotel Port Mahon is a well-positioned option with views over the port, and the Mirador des Port offers a comfortable, central base at a reasonable price.

If you prefer a quieter stay, look at the area around Es Castell, just a short drive from the city centre and easy to reach by local bus.

The market is at Pl. de España, 1, in central Mahón. The square is walkable from hotels throughout the historic centre. City buses stop within a few minutes of the plaza. Paid parking is available nearby.
