Ciudad Rodrigo Municipal Market

The market opens Monday to Friday from 9am to 2.30pm and Saturday from 9.15am to 2pm, closing on Sunday. Saturday is the shortest session of the six, starting fifteen minutes later and finishing half an hour earlier than a weekday.

The hall reopened in June 2024 after a €35,000 refit that closed it for 14 days, bringing new flooring and more efficient refrigeration. It is wheelchair accessible, and stalls take cash, contactless cards and mobile payments.

Butchers and charcuterie counters set the tone, with cured meats alongside fresh cuts. Beyond them you'll find fish and seafood, cheese and dairy, and stalls of fresh fruit and vegetables. Fifteen stalls make a small hall, quick enough to walk end to end before deciding where to buy, and it is the town's fixed daily option rather than a weekly mercadillo. Staying in the historic centre puts you within easy walking distance of the Municipal Market and Ciudad Rodrigo's compact old town. The Casco Histórico is your best bet, with several small hotels and guesthouses right inside the medieval walls.

For a comfortable and well-located option, Parador de Ciudad Rodrigo is a standout choice, set in a 15th-century castle overlooking the River Águeda. It's a short stroll from the market and gives you a great base for exploring the town at your own pace.

The market is at Av. España 13, on one of the main streets outside the fortified walls, between the bus station and the Interpretation Centre of the Fortifications. The single-storey building is easy to spot from the road. Free parking runs along the avenue and the streets around it, which is simpler than driving into the walled centre, and access is step-free from the pavement.
