Pi i Margall Municipal Meat Market

With 15 stalls inside a compact indoor hall, this is a neighbourhood market serving local residents rather than a tourist destination. It's one of the permanent municipal markets in Palafrugell, open six mornings a week and closed all day Monday. Everything trades under cover on one level, the hall is wheelchair accessible, and stalls take cards, contactless and mobile payments as well as cash. For a market day out in the open air instead, the town's street markets are a separate listing.

Meat and poultry are what the hall is named for and what most of the counters sell. Alongside them you'll find fresh fish and seafood, which is the reason plenty of people come in at 8am rather than at noon, and cheese and dairy from local producers. That is the whole of it: 15 stalls, three trades, no fruit and vegetable rows and no clothing. It's a shopping market rather than a browsing one, and the pick is best in the first hour or two of the morning.

Palafrugell is a small town, so staying central is your best bet. Look for accommodation around Town Centre, where you can walk to the market without any hassle and easily explore the surrounding streets.

If you prefer something closer to the coast, the nearby beach villages of Calella de Palafrugell and Llafranc are just a short drive away, and Calella de Palafrugell makes a lovely base with plenty of rental apartments and small hotels to choose from.

The market is at Carrer de Pi i Margall, 17, a couple of minutes' walk from Plaça Nova in central Palafrugell. Entry to the hall is step-free. Street parking is available on the surrounding roads, though spaces fill up on busy mornings, and the town centre is walkable from most local accommodation.
