Platja d'Aro Municipal Market

The Friday-only pattern is the thing to plan around. Unlike a food hall that opens most weekday mornings, this one is shut for six days out of seven, so a mid-week visit finds a closed building rather than short hours. Turn up on a Friday between 8am and 2pm and the whole hall is trading.

It is also not the town's big open-air weekly market, which sets up at the Masia Bas parking area and carries general goods as well as food. The municipal market is the indoor one, smaller, aimed at a household shop rather than a browse, and wheelchair accessible throughout.

Fifteen stalls cover six kinds of food: fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, meat and poultry, fish and seafood, cheese and dairy, and bread and bakery goods. That is the full list, and it is a food market rather than a general one, so there is no clothing, leather or household stock of the sort the open-air market carries.

Cash, credit cards, debit cards, contactless and mobile payments are all accepted, so a Friday shop needs no trip to a cash machine first.

Staying near the seafront puts you a short walk from most of the town, and Town Centre is the most convenient base for reaching the municipal market on foot. The Seafront is also a great option, with plenty of hotels just a short walk from the market and the beach.

If you want something a little more comfortable, Platja d'Aro Resort Area has a good mix of mid-range and higher-end hotels that are still easy to reach the market from, usually by a quick stroll or a short taxi ride.

The market sits on Av. de Castell d'Aro in central Platja d'Aro, within walking distance of most town centre accommodation. Street parking is available in the surrounding area, though spaces fill up during peak summer months.

Public buses connect Platja d'Aro to other Costa Brava towns, with stops located within a 5-minute walk of the market. The building has wheelchair accessible entrances for visitors with mobility requirements.
