Alcalà de Xivert Tuesday Evening Market

The market runs every Tuesday from 5pm to 10pm, which puts it in the same slot as the evening paseo along the seafront. That timing is the thing that sets it apart from the morning markets inland: you can spend the day on the beach and still shop at eight in the evening. It is known locally as the Mercadillo de Alcossebre, and it is organised by the Alcalà de Xivert town hall.

With 136 stalls it takes a while to walk the full length of the pitch, so allow an hour if you want to see everything rather than just the produce end.

Fresh fruit and vegetables make up a good part of the market, alongside cheese and other dairy, and bread and baked goods. The rest of the stalls sell clothing and textiles, footwear and leather goods, jewellery, and spices and dried herbs. Nothing here is indoors, so it is worth checking the forecast before you set out.

Staying on the coast puts you closest to the market, so Alcossebre is the obvious choice: most of it is within walking distance of the Passeig Marítim. The inland town centre is quieter and a short drive away.

Coming from the town of Alcalà de Xivert, it is a short drive down to the coast. Parking near the promenade fills up on Tuesday evenings in summer, so arrive early or leave the car a few streets back.
