Moncofar Municipal Market

The hours are the same on every trading day, 9am to 2pm from Monday to Saturday, and the market is closed on Sundays. There is one session a day and no afternoon opening, so a visit has to be a morning one.

The hall is indoors, which makes it a usable stop on a wet or windy day when open-air stalls on this stretch of the Castellón coast are a poor bet, and it is wheelchair accessible. Traders here take cash, so bring notes and coins rather than relying on a card.

The counters cover the six things a weekly shop needs: fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, meat and poultry, fish and seafood, bread and bakery, and coffee and tea. This is a food market and not a general one, so there is no clothing or household aisle.

The bakery counter is the one worth going out of your way for, with traditional Valencian breads including coca mal feta, and sweet pastries alongside them. The fish counter reflects Moncofa's position on the coast, a couple of kilometres inland from Playa de Moncofa.

Moncofa is a small coastal town, so staying close to the beach puts you near both the market and the seafront. Try Playa de Moncofa for easy access to everything on foot, or look at options in Moncofa town centre if you prefer to be right in the heart of things.

If you'd rather base yourself somewhere with more facilities and hop over for the market, the nearby town of Nules is just a short drive inland and has a few comfortable options worth considering.

The market is at Carrer de Benlliure, 2D, 12593 Moncofa, in the town itself rather than out at the beach, and it is walkable from most of the town centre. Moncofa is reached by regional bus from the larger towns of Castellón province, and street parking is usually findable on the surrounding streets during opening hours.
