El Ahorro Market

Known locally as Mercado El Ahorro, this is a covered hall rather than a set of outdoor stalls, so the 9:30am to 2:30pm session holds in any weather. It is wheelchair accessible, with level access into the building, which matters if you are pushing a chair or a shopping trolley.

Stalls take cash and mobile payment. If you would rather shop in the open air, Martos also runs street markets on their own separate days, and the Jaén province page lists what else is within reach.

Six product lines trade here: fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, meat and poultry, fish and seafood, bread and bakery, and cheese and dairy. That is a full week's cooking in one visit, which is what a daily food hall is for.

Come nearer 9:30am than 2:30pm if the fish counter matters to you. There is one five-hour session a day and no afternoon reopening, so a late arrival is a short one.

Martos is a small town, so your best bet is to stay close to the centre, where you'll be well-placed for El Ahorro Market and the main sights. Try Town Centre for easy walking access to everything.

If you prefer a bit more comfort, the surrounding area has some good options worth checking out. Jaén Province opens up a few rural hotels and guesthouses if you don't mind a short drive into town.
