Everything happens in a single session: Sunday, 9am to 2:30pm, and no other day of the week. Get there before about 1pm and you are shopping in the main part of the morning rather than watching counters pack down.

The site is a polígono industrial on the edge of town, not a town-centre square, which is why the parking is the practical advantage here. The market is wheelchair accessible, and being indoors it has none of the kerbs and cobbles that make an open-air mercadillo hard going. Stalls take cash and cards.

The counters cover fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, cheese and dairy, nuts and dried fruit, and olive oil. That is a food shop rather than a browse: you can put together a week's produce, a cheese, a bag of almonds and a bottle of oil in one circuit, and the local farmers' fruit and vegetable stalls shift with whatever the season is doing.

There is no clothing, no household goods and no bric-a-brac, which is the difference between this market and the mercadillos that trade elsewhere in the province.

Coín is a small town, so your best bet is to stay centrally in Town Centre, where you'll be within easy walking distance of the market and the main plaza. A handful of rural hotels and guesthouses in the surrounding countryside are also worth considering if you want a quieter base.

If you prefer to stay in nearby Málaga city and make a day trip out, that works well too, with regular road connections making the journey straightforward.
