Vélez-Málaga Thursday Market

The 25 stalls split between fresh produce and general goods. One side carries seasonal fruit and vegetables from the Axarquía's farms, along with nuts and dried fruits. The other is clothing and textiles, footwear and leather goods. Prices are noticeably lower than in the shops, which is how the market got its nickname. It is the largest of the street markets in Vélez-Málaga, and worth a stop if you are staying on the coast and want local produce without the tourist markup.

Staying in Town Centre puts you within easy walking distance of the Thursday market, and you'll find a good mix of small hotels and guesthouses around the historic centre. Hotel Ruta de los Almohades is a solid choice if you want somewhere comfortable and central.

If you prefer to be near the coast, Torre del Mar is just a few kilometres away and has more accommodation options, making it easy to combine a morning at the market with an afternoon by the beach.

The market runs along Calle Herreros in central Vélez-Málaga, within walking distance of the old town. It is an open-air market, wheelchair accessible and pet-friendly. Vélez-Málaga sits about 5 km inland from Torre del Mar on the coast, connected by regular local buses. Most stalls take cash, mobile and contactless payments.
