Arenal Street Market
Sunday market on Paseo del Arenal with around 32 stalls selling flowers, fresh produce, antiques and handicrafts. Open 8am to 2pm.
Arenal Street Market sets up every Sunday from 8am to 2pm on Paseo del Arenal in Bilbao, right beside the city hall and the Nervión River. Around 32 stalls line this pedestrianised promenade between the Casco Viejo and the riverbank. The market splits into two sections: a flower market with seasonal bouquets, potted plants and cacti, and a collectibles area with antiques, second-hand books, vinyl records and coins. Bring cash, as most stalls don't accept cards. Get there early for the best selection, since popular items sell out by midday.
Bilbao's Sunday market is also a good starting point for exploring the Old Town. Browse the stalls, then walk straight into the Casco Viejo for pintxos and coffee. On Saturdays, an agricultural market with local Biscay producers runs at the same spot, so the Arenal is worth checking out on both weekend days.
What you'll find
The flower market is the main draw. Florists display everything from fresh-cut roses and sunflowers to succulents and herb plants. Next to the flowers, you'll find fresh fruits and vegetables, local Basque cheese, bread and bakery goods.
The other half of the market is dedicated to antiques and handicrafts. Stalls sell out-of-print books, old records, stamps, coins and handmade items from local artisans. Prices for fresh produce are fair compared to neighbourhood shops, and the collectibles section is worth a slow browse.
