Campanario Food Market

This is a working produce market rather than a sightseeing stop. Trade runs six mornings a week and by 2pm the shutters are down. Sunday it stays shut, so a weekend visitor gets the Saturday session or nothing.

Twenty stalls is few enough that you can walk the whole floor in a couple of minutes and compare the counters before you commit. Everything is under one roof, which keeps an Extremadura summer morning outside.

Five product lines cover an everyday shop: fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, meat and poultry, fish and seafood, and bread and bakery goods.

The fish and seafood counter is the one worth reaching early, since Campanario sits well inland and what arrives is what there is. Meat and poultry is the other draw over a supermarket run. Both cash and cards are accepted, though coins are still handy for a loaf or a bag of fruit.

Campanario is small, so a room in the town centre puts Calle Parador within a few minutes' walk and gets you to the market before the 2pm close without needing the car. If you are working through several markets across La Serena, Castuera is the more practical base.

The address is C. Parador, 2, 06460 Campanario. The town is compact enough that the market is a short walk from most of it, and arriving by car is realistic for anyone coming from elsewhere in this spread-out part of Badajoz province. Aim for 9am to midday.
