Cazorla Municipal Market

The market opens at 8am Monday to Saturday and closes at 3pm, and it does not open on Sundays. That six-morning week is what separates it from a weekly mercadillo: it is where Cazorla does its ordinary food shopping, and where a visitor staying in the sierra can pick up lunch on any day but Sunday.

Everything is indoors, so the weather makes no difference to a visit, and the building is wheelchair accessible, with step-free entry from the plaza. Stalls take cash, and some take mobile payment, so it is worth carrying notes and coins for the smaller counters.

Come between 8am and 10am for the fullest choice. The fish and meat counters are the ones that thin out first, and by mid-morning the best of what arrived that day has usually gone.

The 15 stalls between them cover fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and poultry, fish and seafood, cheese and dairy, and bread and bakery. Several traders are fruit and vegetable specialists, among them Frutas Chillon and Frutas Hermanos Ruiz Moreno.

Two fishmongers work the hall, Pescadería Juana Jordán Viñas and Pescadería Manuel Serrano, alongside the butchers and delicatessen counters. Productos Naturales Ecorazón de Cazorla stocks certified organic products for anyone shopping that way.

You can eat here as well as shop. La Cantina del Mercado operates inside the market building, serving traditional breakfasts and homemade tapas, which makes an 8am arrival easier to justify.

Staying in the old town puts you closest to the market and the main square, so it's the easiest base for a morning visit. The Casco Antiguo has plenty of small hotels and guesthouses within easy walking distance of everything you need.

If you want something with more character, Hotel Ciudad de Cazorla is a reliable option in the centre, and Parador de Cazorla sits up in the sierra if you don't mind a short drive back into town after shopping.

The market is at Mercado de Abastos, Plaza de Andalucía, s/n, 23470 Cazorla, within walking distance of the main tourist areas. From Cazorla bus station, follow Calle Hilario Marco toward the town centre, where the plaza is clearly signposted.
