Mercado de la Barqueta

The Barqueta market is one of Úbeda's two municipal food markets, positioned to serve the newer residential areas away from the historic centre. The indoor setting keeps shopping comfortable year-round, from peak Andalusian summer heat to cool winter mornings.

You'll find the familiar rhythm of a Spanish market here: stalls opening at 9am, peak bustle mid-morning, and a gradual wind-down toward 2pm when vendors pack up.

The stalls cover everyday fresh food: fruit and vegetables, meat and poultry, fish and seafood, and cheese and dairy. Jaén province is the heart of Spain's olive oil production, so look out for locally sourced produce from the surrounding countryside. This is a working local market, not a tourist market.

Staying in the old town puts you close to everything, and Casco Antiguo is the obvious choice, with the market, the Renaissance squares, and the best restaurants all within easy walking distance. The Parador de Ubeda is the standout option if you want something special, set right on the Plaza de Vázquez de Molina in a converted 16th-century palace.

For something more affordable, Hotel Palacio de Ubeda is a solid mid-range pick in the heart of the old town. Wherever you stay, aim to be central, as Ubeda is compact and best explored on foot.

The market is at Avenida Ciudad de Linares, 3, Úbeda. Local buses connect the area to the city centre, and street parking is generally available nearby. The UNESCO-listed old town is a short drive away, making it easy to pair a market visit with exploring Úbeda's Renaissance architecture.
