A covered municipal market in central Mataró with 25 stalls. Open Tuesday to Saturday, with evening sessions Tuesday to Friday and free parking on site.

Cuba Square Market (Mercado de la Plaza de Cuba) is a covered municipal market at Plaça de Cuba, 47 in Mataró, with 25 stalls selling fresh food five days a week. It opens 8am to 2pm and again 5pm to 8pm Tuesday to Thursday, runs straight through to 8:30pm on Friday, and trades from 7am to 2:30pm on Saturday. It's one of four municipal markets in Mataró.

History and architecture

The market traces its roots to the late 19th century, when it operated as a temporary open-air market during Mataró's urban expansion. The current building opened on 11 April 1936, designed by local architect Lluís Gallifa Grezner. A full renovation in 2010 updated the facilities.

What to buy at Cuba Square Market

The 25 stalls cover the everyday staples: fresh vegetables, fruit, meat and poultry, fish and seafood, cheese and dairy, and bread. Beyond the produce, the market runs a kitchen classroom for live cooking demonstrations and a dedicated space for wine and beer tastings. Stalls take cash, contactless cards and mobile payment. You can browse participating stalls and order for pickup or delivery through the official market website.

Where to stay in Mataró

Staying in the city centre puts you closest to Cuba Square, and City Centre has a good selection of hotels within easy walking distance of the market. The Hotel Colón Mataró is a solid, well-located option if you want something straightforward and comfortable.

If you prefer being near the seafront, Mataró Waterfront is just a short stroll from the centre and gives you a relaxed base to explore both the market and the beach.

What time does Cuba Square Market open?

Cuba Square Market opens at 8am Tuesday to Thursday, closes at 2pm, then reopens from 5pm to 8pm. On Friday it opens at 8am and stays open until 8:30pm with no midday break, and Saturday hours are 7am to 2:30pm. The market is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

What can you buy at Cuba Square Market?

Cuba Square Market's 25 stalls sell fresh vegetables, fruit, meat and poultry, fish and seafood, cheese and dairy, and bread. The market also runs a kitchen classroom for live cooking demonstrations and a tasting space for wine and beer, so there's more to it than a weekly produce run.

Is there parking at Cuba Square Market?

Yes, free parking is available directly at Cuba Square Market, on site at Plaça de Cuba, 47 rather than in a nearby street. That makes a full weekly shop practical for anyone driving in from outside central Mataró, and the stalls take cash, contactless cards and mobile payment.

Can you visit Cuba Square Market with children?

Cuba Square Market has a dedicated Play Space where parents can leave children while they shop, and the building is wheelchair accessible throughout, so a pram moves through it easily. The kitchen classroom's live cooking demonstrations are another reason to linger rather than shop and leave.
