Puríssima Concepció Municipal Market

The market building dates to 1936, designed by architect Miquel Brullet i Monmany as a single-nave covered hall. It has been listed in Mataró's Catalog of Historic-Artistic Heritage since 1981, and underwent a full renovation in 2009. The result is a clean, accessible space that serves the neighbourhood around Plaça de Cuba with daily fresh produce.

The stalls cover the full range of kitchen essentials: fresh fish and seafood from the Mediterranean, seasonal fruit and vegetables, meat and poultry, cheese and dairy, and bread and pastries from local bakeries. Much of the fresh produce comes from Maresme farmers, some carrying the "Collits a casa" label indicating it was grown locally.

Staying central is your best bet in Mataró, putting you within easy walking distance of the market and the old town. The Centre has a good selection of hotels and is where most visitors base themselves.
