Markets in Garrucha

Garrucha is a small coastal town, so staying central means you're already close to everything. The Town Centre puts you within easy walking distance of the markets, the waterfront, and the fish auction that the town is known for.

For a comfortable base, Seafront has a handful of smaller hotels and apartments where you can stay right on the promenade. It's a practical choice if you want to combine market visits with a bit of beach time along the Almería coast.

Both of the town's markets are street markets, and Garrucha has no covered municipal food hall, so everything trades in the open air. The Friday one, known in Spanish as Mercadillo Garrucha, is the larger at about 30 stalls and the more practical of the two. Clothing and footwear take up most of the run, with books, flowers and plants and a few handicraft stalls filling in. Stalls take cash, contactless and mobile payments, the pitch is wheelchair accessible, and there is a children's play area alongside it.

The night market is smaller at roughly 20 stalls and much narrower in what it sells, sticking to handicrafts and jewellery for people out for an evening walk rather than a weekly shop. It is a summer fixture only, running through June, July and August.

Friday is the busiest day, and in summer the only day both markets trade: the street market from 8am to 2pm, then the night market from 7pm. For the rest of the year, Friday morning is the only market in town.

From June to August the rhythm changes completely. The night market opens every evening of the week, Monday through Sunday, from 7pm until midnight, so a Sunday in July has stalls out on the promenade while a Sunday in November has none.

Garrucha Night Market opens at 7pm and runs until midnight, every evening from Monday to Sunday. It trades in summer only, through June, July and August, with around 20 stalls of handicrafts and jewellery set out along the Paseo Marítimo on the seafront. Outside those three months it does not run at all.

It is the town's main weekly market, with about 30 stalls selling clothing, footwear, books, and flowers and plants. In summer the separate night market adds an evening option on the other six days as well.
