San Fernando Agricultural Market

Known in Spanish as Mercado Agrícola de San Fernando de Maspalomas, the market runs weekly and on Sunday only. There is no second trading day, so a Monday to Saturday visit to the patio at Colegio Marcial Franco finds it empty. The 30 stalls work the six hours from 8am to 2pm, which is the whole of the market and not a morning session with an afternoon one behind it.

Fruit and vegetables from growers on the island are the bulk of the 30 stalls, sold alongside cheese and dairy, and bread and baked goods. Organic produce has its own stalls here, and so do flowers and plants, which is the part of the market worth arriving early for if you want a choice.

Staying in Playa del Inglés puts you close to the market and gives you easy access to the beaches and dunes. The Riu Palace Maspalomas is a solid choice if you want a comfortable base with good amenities nearby.

If you prefer something quieter, Meloneras is a short drive away and has a more relaxed feel, with plenty of dining options after a morning at the market.
