La Hoya Street Market

Fresh fruit and vegetables take up most of the fourteen stalls, with cheese and dairy alongside them. The rest is clothing and textiles, and footwear and leather goods, which is the usual shape of a Spanish neighbourhood mercadillo: the week's produce and a rail of everyday clothes in the same stop. The market is entirely open-air, so a wet Friday is a thinner one.

Staying in the city centre puts you closest to the La Hoya Street Market, and Elche City Centre has a good selection of hotels within easy walking distance. The Hotel Huerto del Cura is a well-regarded option with comfortable rooms and a short drive or taxi ride to the market.

If you prefer something more budget-friendly, look around the El Pla neighbourhood, where you'll find smaller hotels and guesthouses at reasonable prices. It keeps you close to the action without stretching your wallet.

The market runs along Calle Canal, in La Hoya itself, a few kilometres out from central Elche and easiest reached by car or a short taxi ride. Arriving before noon gives you the fullest run of stalls. It fits a morning alongside the other street markets in Elche, and the town hall's official page lists the city's mercadillo days if a public holiday falls on a Friday.
