Plaza de Madrid Market
A covered neighbourhood market in central Elche with 33 stalls. Open Monday to Saturday from 7am for fresh fish, meat, produce, cheese, and bread.
Plaza de Madrid Market is a covered indoor market at Plaça de Madrid nº 14 in Elche, Alicante. One of two municipal markets in Elche, it has been serving the neighbourhood since 1972 and is currently undergoing a major renovation to update its facades, roofs, lighting, and ventilation. The market opens Monday to Friday from 7am to 2:30pm, and Saturdays from 7am to 3pm. It closes on Sundays.
What to buy
The 33 stalls cover all the fresh food basics: fish and seafood, meat and poultry, vegetables and fruit, cheese and dairy, and bread. The fish section draws regular customers, particularly during weekday mornings when selection is at its best. You'll also find olives, pickled goods, cured meats, and dried fruits. There's a café inside the market too, so a coffee mid-shop is easy.
