Torrevieja has four markets, three of them street markets and one municipal market, and between them they trade on all seven days of the week. Almost all of them open at 10am and close at 2pm, so the morning is the only realistic time to shop. Across the four you'll find fresh fruit and vegetables, clothing, footwear, handicrafts, jewellery, books and prepared foods.
The city sits on the southern Costa Blanca in Alicante province, and the split between local shoppers, resident expats and summer visitors shows in what the stalls carry: produce and household clothing in the mornings on the working days, souvenirs and craft work where the tourist trade is heaviest.
Staying close to the waterfront puts you within easy reach of most of Torrevieja's markets, and Town Centre is your best base for that. The Paseo Vista Alegre area is also a solid choice, with good access on foot to the main market spots along the seafront.
If you prefer a hotel rather than an apartment, Hotel Masa Internacional is a reliable option right on the beach and close to the action. Book early in summer, as the town gets busy and prices rise fast.

The other three are street markets, and they are where Torrevieja sells its fresh food. There is no dedicated farmers market in the city, so fruit and vegetable stalls set up alongside clothing, footwear, handicrafts, jewellery and books rather than in a market of their own.
Size varies more than the trading hours do. The largest sets up in the La Mata district with around 160 stalls, roughly three times what the smallest one carries, so go there if you want choice rather than a quick browse.

One of the four is a municipal market, or mercado, and it is the city's only indoor option. The stalls there deal in clothing, jewellery and footwear rather than fresh food, which makes it the one to head for when rain or August heat rules out an open-air morning. Opening hours match the rest of the city at 10am to 2pm.

Wednesday and Friday are the busiest days, with three of the four markets trading on each. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday have two apiece, and Sunday drops to one. No day of the week is blank, which is unusual for a Costa Blanca town of this size and is worth knowing if you arrive mid-week without a plan.
Because the hours are so consistent, two markets on the same day are hard to combine unless they are close together. Pick the bigger one, get there by 11am, and treat anything after 1.30pm as the packing-up hour rather than shopping time.
