Málaga Street Market

Opening hours are 9am to 3pm, with the produce stalls busiest in the first couple of hours, before the midday heat and before the best boxes of fruit and vegetables are picked over. The market sets up outdoors along the avenue on level ground, wheelchair accessible from end to end, with no shelter if the weather turns.

Part of the market is given over to fresh fruit and vegetables, sold by the box or the kilo. The rest of the 80 stalls sell clothing and textiles, plus footwear and leather goods such as shoes, bags and belts. Prices are aimed at the week's shopping rather than souvenirs.

Staying in the city centre puts you in easy reach of the street market and Málaga's best neighbourhoods. Centro Histórico is the most convenient base, with plenty of hotels within walking distance of the market route. For something more comfortable, Room Mate Larios sits right on the main boulevard and is a solid mid-range option.

If you prefer to be near the seafront, Málaga La Malagueta is just a short walk from the centre and gives you a quieter spot to return to after a day of browsing stalls.

The stalls run along Avenida de las Malagueñas in Cruz de Humilladero, south-west of the historic centre, at postcode 29006. City buses serve the neighbourhood, and street parking on the surrounding roads fills up quickly on Sunday mornings. If you would rather shop under a roof, the city's municipal markets open on weekday mornings instead.
