Castalla's mercado scene is made up of three weekly street markets, the largest being the Castalla Weekly Market with around 100 stalls selling fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, and bread. The town earned its market rights back in 1331 when King Jaime II granted Castalla the privilege of holding a Saturday market, and that tradition has continued in various forms to this day.
